Our camping in the Lot is located between Cahors and Brive la Gaillarde in the Dordogne valley. Cahors, the Prefecture of the Lot, is a medieval city situated on the route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle and at the gateway to the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy. The city of Cahors is built on a meander of the Lot. It is a peninsula.

Camping holidays near Cahors

The city of Cahors has a rich historical past, as evidenced by its historic stone and red brick centre with its half-timbered houses and medieval alleys.

The famous Pont Valentré, the city’s emblem, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating from the 14th century, the bridge has 3 fortified towers. It is a pedestrian bridge and can therefore be visited either on foot or by taking a boat ride on the river Lot.

In the centre of Cahors, Saint Etienne’s cathedral is a major monument dating from the 12th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During your visit, don’t miss the organ and its adjoining cloister built in flamboyant gothic style. Your stay will also be an opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful villages of France and the Lot valley such as Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Puy l’évèque, Cahors, Collonges la rouge or Domme.

The gastronomy of Cahors

The Lot has a wealth of local products.

First of all with the wines of Cahors, a renowned appellation which is available in Vin de Cahors AOP and in the wines of the Coteaux du Quercy. Many wine estates open their doors and organise tastings.

The Lot is also famous for its local products such as truffles, foie gras and Quercy nuts. Rocamadour is also known for its goat’s cheese, which has been awarded the PDO for its quality and production.

The Cahors market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning. Local craftsmen and producers will help you discover their know-how as well as all the local products available in the Lot.
